To the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:
WHEREAS since 1997, the Academic Assistance for Adults with Developmental Disabilities (AAADD) program at Algonquin College has supported young adults with developmental disabilities in continuing their education, building life and job skills, and gaining independence in a supportive, inclusive setting;
WHEREAS this program is one of the few postsecondary options available in Ontario for individuals with developmental disabilities and plays a critical role in helping them lead fuller, more connected, and more independent lives;
WHEREAS parents and caregivers report that the AAADD program has improved the quality of life, future opportunities for their loved one, offering both educational benefits and sense of belonging;
WHEREAS investing in the AAADD program has significant long-term benefits for the province by reducing reliance on ODSP, increased employment for adults with developmental disabilities and lowering the demand for social services.
We the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows: That the Legislative Assembly of Ontario calls on the government to save this essential program.
